Pepper is a 2.5-year-old rescue that had a very happy beginning. You can see that in her eyes from the love and affection she gives to humans and, especially children. Unfortunately, that happy beginning did not last long.  She either got lost or was kidnapped or abandoned. During her wandering arounds she suffered a severe leg injury that, later on, was treated through help of a good surgeon and a group of kind people.  Being a small skinny dog, she had to learn to defend herself on the streets against bigger dogs and also against not very kind people. Pepper weighs about 46lbs now, but she was around 30 when was rescued.

Through efforts of a group of animal lovers, she was lucky enough to come to the US in January 2017 from 7000 miles away! She has been living with a family in Seattle who adores her, but cannot keep her. Pepper is well-behaved in the house and great with children and adults.

However, any prospective owners should know that she has never been fully socialized with other dogs and thus is highly anxious and reactive around them until he gets to know them.

It took her foster parent five days to get her to live, play, and be friend with two other dogs (see the attached picture). Pepper would do best with an experienced dog owner who is understanding of her needs and dedicated to meeting her unique challenges.  However, her behavior toward strange dogs may not completely change over time. Pepper is responsive to training, but needs someone who can commit to work frequently and consistently with her. Dedicated time training her at home and while on walks daily would be best. According to her foster parent who is a seasoned dog owner, she is the smartest dog he has ever seen. She learns quickly and likes to have a job to do. She will repay a patient and considerate owner with sweetness, loyalty, and lots of love.

Pepper is a friendly dog who is great with people. The prospective family should know that finding a dog that is as safe and sweet as Pepper is  to children is not easy. She is always ready to receive petting and enjoys frequent brushing. She is always curious and interested in what is happening in the household. She is happy to greet you in the morning and when you come home. She loves going for walks, but is on-alert and anxious anticipating encounters with other dogs. Pepper would be best suited to a home that is less urban than her current home in Seattle. Leash walks in city neighborhoods pose a big challenge. In a more rural setting it's possible she may even make a good jogging companion with some training. She enjoys running around in the backyard and playing fetch. Other points in talking with interested potential adopters:

1.

Pepper should stay away from dog parks.  She panics around a group of dogs and becomes aggressive and she could bite them if she feels she is the leader, not her owner/walker.

2.

She should not be walking with other dogs that she does not know well.

3.

Pepper is too smart for regular leash. We recommend using a "Gentle Leader" when walking her and a muzzle if she may encounter other dogs. Pepper should use an Easy Walk Harness.

4.

Like most other dogs, Pepper should not be left tied up anywhere (park, grocery store).

We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life!
